Futsal is five-a-side indoor football played on a basketball-sized court, with twenty minutes each half and small ball.

Futsal (the International 5 -a- side Indoor Game) is the only version of indoor soccer sanctioned by the games world governing body FIFA, (Federation Internationale de Football Association). FIFA are responsible for organising the Futsal World Championship, for which National teams from all around the world compete in. In fact, it is the futsal equivalent of its more illustrious outdoor tournament, the FIFA World Cup.

One Highlight of my first trip to Brazil was being introduced to a game called futsal. Watching Futsal for the first time was like being let in on a national secret because it was the one thing that immediately struck me as being unique to the football culture of Brazil. Up until then, what I had seen of then Brazilian training of young players was nothing out of the ordinary. The way the young players played Futsal, though, left a major impression on me.
While the term Futsal literally means salon football.
